Old2cvman has another Story......... after browsing the daily doses of forum members experiences, I feel as if I am living in another World of make believe.
Cash must come very easy to many people, judging by the large amounts, that members of this site pay out for replacing parts on some thing that they are restoring.
Today's topic is Exhaust systems for Citroen 2.C.V.s .
They are an expensive item to buy .....
But not for me : I visit local Car Exhaust re-fitting Centers, armed with a good hefty wire Brush, an industrial Hacksaw, and spare blades, complimented with a Aerosol tin of W.D . 40.
I make it know to whoever is in Charge, that I a searching for a Citroen 2.C.V. exhaust, or some thing I can convert to suit my needs.... the answer I always get is, search around the Scrap bay mate, and help yourself to what ever you need.
Thats my passport to a new re manufactured...Exhaust system in a condensed story, I sort out all I need, put it in my Car between the rear and front seats... and head home, at no cost entailed.
I then remove my old system or what ever does need replacing, all with a selection of Pipe clamps also salvaged in the scrap waste containers.... My Motto is Ingenuity, can solve any problem, and it gives my Brain a stimulant re manufacturing a costly item at no expense to my Wallet.
Motor Cycle Chrome exhausts boxes are a favorite of mine too, another thing I do is I collect office Chrome waste treadle bins, there Stainless Steel, A wrap sections of this materials around what ever I am remaking, and make metal straps with a bolt each end and secure the new metal around the item, this doubles the life expectancy of my new made Exhaust.
The Road wheel pictures tell another Story... I found them thrown away in a waste metal skip, complete with tires... after extensive cleaning, and modifying the stud holes, I painted them, and I fabricated the Chrome hub center caps from a paint spray containers, Original Honda hub caps , are commanding £ 35 .00 each on E.Bay..second hand. mine look just as good home made at NO COST.
