Another Weekend adventure in my Trusty 2,C.V. by Old2cvman,

Messagepar old2cvman » 12 nov. 2018, 21:11

:bienvenue: :bienvenue: This was a totally unplanned Adventurous Trip to a Citroen 2 C.V. World meeting Rally which was staged at Utrecht in the Netherlands July 28th.1997 for a five day period...... this is my Story.
I had been to Southern California from June 30th on a Star Trekking trip around Los Angeles and Las Vegas , and had arrived home on a Saturday afternoon , flying into Manchester Airport, after a 12 hours journey, it was an early to bed nite , after the long haul flight..
During the following day I received a Phone call, from an old friend whom I had had no contact with for over 20 years.... we chatted about old times together, when I worked with him, then he dropped a Bomb Shell on me. I am planning on going to Holland tomorrow for five days to a Car Rally.. do you fancy going....
I thought for a few minutes then answered with enthusiasm Yes I'll join YOU..... Monday morning I was up by 6 .A.M. with my car packed with camping gear, and my mate Richie arrived at my house.. we had decided to go in my World Trekker Car,

As I was confident of its re liabilities.. so by half Six we were road worthy en route down to Dover, a seven hours drive.... the other end of the country from Liverpool, by mid afternoon we were queuing in Traffic waiting to board a cross channel Ferry to France, a 2 hours crossing.

This beak was welcome, after our slog down to Dover.... after our arrival at the Port of Calais.. we consulted our Map.. and headed for Lille and the Belgium border.. then onward across thru Brussels and Antwerp heading for Arnhem .. and Utrecht.. our destination, we arrived mid afternoon and eventually paid our camping fees, and erected our tents, happy to have made the 678 miles , in 14 hours hard driving in unfamiliar territory.....

Another World Adventure Story from Old2cvman

Messagepar old2cvman » 24 nov. 2018, 17:06

Hello all forum readers …..Old2cvman, stopping bye with another Story.

As a boy during the 1939 / 1945 World War my City of Liverpool was continually Bombed for many years every night by the German Luftwaffe Air force, and as children we would forage among the bombed debris daily for what ever we could retrieved…that’s how we survived , my five elder brothers were all of the age to be summoned to serve in the armed forces, the first Three were recruited in 1940 , and the second two were called for war service in 1942……. They all fought for their country three in European theaters of action, and two in the Far East.

I was summoned to serve in the forces from January 2nd 1950. Having left school age 14, during these early years, I had learned to Driver, and at 16 I got my first Driving licence, and I was Motor Bike and Car Mad… I had two motor cycles a BSA 500… and a Vincent Comet.. a Rolls Royce of Motor bikes… then I graduated into Cars a couple of Fiats.. then a Renault Four, with a Ferlec Auto clutch system.. a superb vehicle in it day

When I came out of the British Army in 1954, I never returned to my profession as a Commercial Vehicle Bodybuilder, which I served an apprenticeship too, from the age of 14.
Instead I secured employment as a H.G.V. class one long distance Lorry Driver…. On 60 foot Juggernauts… doing multi deliveries Nationally in the U.K. For a number of years.
Then a change of employer put me in the category of European deliveries, and eventually to North America,
This was a choice I deliberately made to suit my self, as I was also a Freelance Paparattzi Photographer, and having a bigger scope of Photographing Hollywood Stars. A hobby that Loved doing.
The next 40 years were very lucrative for Me….. I met and befriended Hundreds of Hollywood’s finest actors…. I wrote a Book of my life Story and I am still active with my Love affair with Citroen 2.C.V. cars, that’s lasted over 55 years… concerning a dozen of these little beasts… that inject pleasure into this aging body of mine 87 years, and still full of adventurous notions,
My wife and I still trek on adventures State side, all though Father time accompanies us both now.
